A Poisson Approximation for an Occupancy Problem with Collisions
We study collision probabilities concerning the simple balls-and-bins problem developed byWendl (2003). In this article we give the factorial moment of the number of collisions. Moreover, we obtain a Poisson approximation for the number of collisions using the Chen–Stein method.
متن کاملA recursive solution to an occupancy problem resulting from TDM radio communication application
In this paper we treat an occupancy problem: the probability that m out of n boxes each have exactly one ball resulting from distributing k balls into n boxes. The solution to this problem is given by a set of recursive expressions. By translating these formulae into a computer program, one can easily obtain the numerical results. متن کاملRefined Large Deviation Asymptotics for the Classical Occupancy Problem∗
In this paper refined large deviation asymptotics are derived for the classical occupancy problem. The asymptotics are established for a sequential filling experiment and an occupancy experiment. In the first case the random variable of interest is the number of balls required to fill a given fraction of the urns, while in the second a fixed number of balls are thrown and random variable is the...
متن کاملAn employee transporting problem
An employee transporting problem is described and a set partitioning model is developed. An investigation of the model leads to a knapsack problem as a surrogate problem. Finding a partition corresponding to the knapsack problem provides a solution to the problem. An exact algorithm is proposed to obtain a partition (subset-vehicle combination) corresponding to the knapsack solution. It require...
متن کاملAIDS and hospital bed occupancy: an overview.
In several countries of sub-Saharan Africa more than 10% of the adult population are infected with HIV, while in large towns such as Kampala, Lusaka, Blantyre, Kigali and Harare this proportion exceeds 25%. One of the most obvious consequences is the increased occupancy of hospital beds by patients with HIV infection, perhaps to the exclusion of patients with other ailments. This paper gives an...
